Everyone is different and many factors can effect bruising / swelling rates. Some of these we can predict by taking comprehensive medical history and anatomical knowledge of the area we are treating. However, some people are just more prone to swelling than others.
Expect swelling with lips, nose, and nasolabial regions. Whereas cheeks, jawline, chin and temporal region generally less.
During the swelling process your face will look different. Depending on how much filler has been placed and in which regions. With a full face rejuvenation the swelling can be significant and during this time your face may move differently. Don’t be alarmed, this will settle.
During the recovery period little lumps or uneven areas are common, if this is still the case after two weeks it may need addressing. It can also take two weeks, sometimes more, for swelling to subside and the final result to be clear. Trust the process during this time.
Bruising can appear straight away or over several days. The bruises will change colour, or in some cases spread, this is a normal process.
I always ensure my clients have my mobile number to contact me with any concerns. I will always ask for a photo (minimum) of any bruising in order to provide reassurance, and ensure it’s nothing more serious.
Serious complications with dermal filler are rare, but can be severe. It’s not normal to experience extreme pain especially localised to one area compare to others that were treated. Pale areas, mottled skin, cold to touch areas are not normal. In this case contact your practitioner immediately, as long as action is prompt the outcome is likely to be good.
Sometimes, despite opting for a treatment you may just not like the result. In this case the relationship between you and your practitioner is so important. Make sure you feel comfortable to talk. An experienced practitioner will be confident dealing with the situation, and won’t be offended.
Always wait the full 2 weeks for the swelling to subside (sometimes longer). But if you’re still not happy, the beautiful thing about non-surgical treatment is it doesn’t have to be permanent. We can always dissolve.
